KAREN KOLTRANE

tabbed by chris lawrence

kim: DADGGB
thurston: CGDGBB
lee: GGDAGA#

thurston:

(first sound you hear - right speaker)

B----------
B----------
G----------
D----------
G--0-0--0--
C--0-0--0--

then:

B--21-21-21-21-21-21-21-21-----
B--20-20-20-20-20-20-20-20-etc-
G------------------------------
D------------------------------
G------------------------------
C------------------------------

then repeat those two 'riffs'

then drift into the section filled w/ noisy modulated bursts of sound...

after the fog clears (3:56), thurston plays:

B---------------------
B---------------------
G---------------------
D--------12--------9--
G---12---------7------
C---------------------

thurston plays this under the 'will she stay forever' part too, but
he plays the notes more than once and hits the low C sometimes.

then:

B----------------------------
B----------------------------
G----------------------------
D----10----7----7-7-7--------
G---------------------9--9-9-
C----------------------------

and:

B-------------------
B---------5-7-5-----
G--5\7-7--------7-5-
D---------5-7-5-----
G--5\7-7--------7-5-
C-------------------

be sure to add more notes and slop it up a bit...

then, his harmonics (i think):

B-<7>-<7>-<7>-<7>-<7>-
B-<7>-<7>-<7>-<7>-<7>-etc
G---------------------
D---------------------
G---------------------
C---------------------

then he changes to:

B------------------
B------------------
G------------------
D------------------
G--<12>-<12>-<12>-- etc etc etc
C------------------

then he plays the opening riff again, but as harmonics:

B-----------------
B-----------------
G-----------------
D-----------------
G-<12>-<12>--<12>-
C-<12>-<12>--<12>-

and fade out

--

kim:

B---------------- ---------5-5-5-
G--0-0-0--3-3-3-- --0-0-0--5-5-5-
G--0-0-0--3-3-3-- --0-0-0--5-5-5-
D---------------- ---------------
A---------------- ---------------
D---------------- ---------------

play each phrase twice...only play the B string notes on the repeat

then:

B-----------------
G--17-17-17-17-17-
G--17-17-17-17-17- etc
D-----------------
A-----------------
E-----------------

that continues onwards until the next verse and after.

after the next verse, she keeps playing that, yet adds some effects
and starts neck-hopping a bit (ie: sliding up 2 frets to the 19th
fret, hitting open strings, just anything).

then, after that jam, during the "will she stay forever" part, repeat
the first riff of the verse over and over...

then when the next jam starts, she plays:

B----------------------
G--7-7-7-7-7-7-7\9-9-9- etc
G--7-7-7-7-7-7-7\9-9-9-
D----------------------
A----------------------
D----------------------

after she sticks to that a bit, she starts adding more open G's into
it and varying it more and more. eventually she starts playing
open G's and then sliding up to around the 12/13th fret, and then straying
back to that riff above (G-7\9)

eventually she starts doing stuff like:

B-------------------\9-9--------------------------------------
G--0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0--\9-9--0-0-0-0-0-0-0-7-7-7-7\9-9-9-9-9 etc-
G--0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0--\9-9--0-0-0-0-0-0-0-7-7-7-7\9-9-9-9-9 etc-
D-------------------------------------------------------------
A-------------------------------------------------------------
D-------------------------------------------------------------

then:

B--------
G-<12>--- (harmonic)
G-<12>-etc
D--------
A--------
D--------

fade out to main riff again..w/ much sloppy variation

------

lee:

(w/ delay)

first verse:

A#---5------4-----2\5------------5-----4-----2~~~------
G-------3------2--------------------3-----2------------
A------------------------------------------------------
D------------------------------------------------------
G-----------------------5-5-5--------------------------
G-----------------------5-5-5--------------------------

ring modulated delay shit for the next section...

then verse again

more ring modulator noise next.

then, during the 'will she stay forever' part, his guitar is pretty
quiet, perhaps playing open strings, then 5th fret harmonics across
the neck w/ delay.

then, the part that starts about 5 minutes in:

A#------------------------ --------------------------
G---------------11-12----- --------------------------
A--------10-12------------ w/ slight ---------10-12-12-10------
D--10\12--------------10-- variations like: ---10\12--------------10--
G------------------------- --------------------------
G------------------------- --------------------------

about 6 minutes in start getting wilder and wilder....

then a harmonic thing (shake last note w/ trem bar):

A#---------------------<12>---
G-----------------<12>--------
A-------<12>-<12>-------------
D--<12>-----------------------
G-----------------------------
G-----------------------------

w/ variations and such, then:

A#------------------------------
G----------------------<12>~~~~-
A-------<12>-<12>---------------
D--<12>-----------<12>----------
G-------------------------------
G-------------------------------

for outro verse, play A# harmonics w/ mod/delay

then back to main verse riff when vocals enter...
